Bryan is an historian of Europe and Christianity, holding a PhD in the history of medieval and early modern Europe from the University of Florida and a MA in US History from the University of Alabama.

 

He is an Assistant Professor of History at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV, where he teaches European and World History. He has taught courses in history, the humanities, and writing at the University of Alabama, the University of Florida, the University of Warsaw, and Davis & Elkins College.

Bryan's research focuses on premodern religious reform in a broadly-defined Central Europe, emphasizing continuity from the Middle Ages into the early modern period. In his current book project, he examines the reforming activity of Catholic and Protestant bishops in Prussia between the fifteenth century and sixteenth century. This project was made possible by a postdoctoral fellowship with the Foundation for Civic Space and Public Policy (Fundacja Przestrzeni Obywatelskiej i Polityki SpoÅ‚ecznej), funded through the Polish National Foundation (Polska Fundacja Narodowa).

He lives in Randolph County with his wife, their two daughters, and their growing collection of dwarves.
